My Day as an Adelaide Wedding Celebrant

Nadia and Kosta’s Adelaide Wedding

12th of March 2017

Working as a Wedding Celebrant in Adelaide I knew Nadia, like most brides, had a definite vision of how she wanted her wedding to be. She’s a free spirited, bright and bubbly, young woman and Kosta is extremely well organised and takes care of the logistics. They chose a beautiful Adelaide wedding venue at Sunnybrae Estate and picked a date in March which, normally, is perfect weather here in Adelaide. The wedding ceremony and reception would both be outdoors to take advantage of the magnificent grounds of the Estate complete with wandering peacocks. Nadia chose her dream wedding dress and was ecstatic when she came up with the brilliant idea of foot jewellery instead of uncomfortable, high heels. Nadia and Kosta wanted the main focus to be the party and the great time had by themselves and all their guests.

The weather forecast for Adelaide for the week preceding predicted blissful weather for the long weekend except for the Sunday. As it drew closer to the wedding, not only were there showers forecasted but also storm warnings! The decision to move the reception inside was made but the hope of at least the wedding ceremony being outdoors was still on the cards. The morning of the 12th was magnificent. Nadia had photos taken at Henley Square and when the car arrived to take them to the ceremony the sky was bright and sunny.

Meanwhile, at Sunnybrae Estate the skies had turned grey and it had started to rain. The guests vacated their chairs and huddled under trees with their umbrellas. The photographer and videographer couldn’t do their jobs and it was my call as their wedding celebrant to make the decision to move the wedding ceremony indoors 15 minutes before the bride arrived.

The management and staff were amazing and a perfect, rustic, undercover setting suddenly appeared. The radiant look on Nadia’s face as she walked down the aisle showed non of the disappointment she must’ve briefly felt. Nothing was going to dampen her spirits this special day. That look on a groom’s face when he first sees the bride is my favourite moment during wedding ceremonies. The look on Kosta’s face when he saw Nadia said “I’m the luckiest man alive”.
